•Bram van Duinen•3 min. reading timeLast week, we visited Tracefy. An inspiring day where dealers, partners and insurers came together to discuss the latest developments in bike security and GPS tracking. Because how do we ensure that bicycles and other forms of micromobility remain safe and usable?
What became clear right away: this is something we need to do together. By sharing knowledge, collaborating and using technology smartly, we can make a real impact.
During the sessions, Tracefy shared the latest data and insights. Recovery Service also provided a look into how GPS tracking for bicycles works in practice. And the results are impressive. The majority of stolen bikes are now successfully recovered. This shows what’s possible when technology and collaboration come together. GPS tracking is therefore not just a tool, but an essential part of modern bike security.
A key takeaway: the dealer plays a crucial role in the success of GPS tracking for bicycles. The quality of installation largely determines the success of recovery. Together, we ensure that this installation is carried out at the highest level, and it shows in the results.
By continuing to share knowledge and experiences, we strengthen each other. In doing so, we not only improve individual solutions, but elevate the entire chain to a higher level.
We’re seeing a clear shift in the market. Bicycle insurance is increasingly perceived as expensive by consumers. In 2025, there is even a noticeable decline in the number of policies taken out. So what do people do instead? They look for alternatives, and more often, they turn to GPS tracking for their bikes.
Why? Because it provides direct control. Instead of waiting for an insurance process, you can actively track where your bike is and take immediate action. The sense of security is shifting from paperwork to technology.
Micromobility is playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives. Think of a cargo bike replacing a second car. It’s something you simply can’t afford to be without for long. And that’s exactly where GPS tracking for bicycles makes the difference. In many cases, a stolen bike is recovered within a few days. That’s a significant improvement compared to traditional insurance processes. Mobility is no longer just about ownership, but about availability. And speed is crucial in that equation.
An interesting insight that emerged is that stolen bikes don’t always end up abroad. In many cases, they remain within the Netherlands and are resold locally.
This creates an additional challenge within the market. Illegal resale generates competition for bike shops and undermines the supply chain. That is exactly why GPS tracking for bicycles is becoming increasingly important. It not only helps recover stolen bikes, but also plays a role in combating this form of illegal trade.
The conclusion is clear. GPS tracking for bicycles is playing an increasingly important role within micromobility. It touches on safety, availability and trust. And that creates opportunities. Opportunities to collaborate more effectively. Opportunities to support our customers even better. And opportunities to raise the standard of bike security to the next level.
So where do we go from here? How do we ensure that more bikes are equipped with GPS tracking? And how do we continue to build a stronger, safer ecosystem together?
